About

Who We Are

We are the reporters and production staff of Schneps Media - The local journalists behind amNewYork, amNewYork Law, Brooklyn Paper, Bronx Times, Brownstoner, Dan's Papers, New York Family, QNS and Long Island Press. We love local journalism and want to make it better through a contract that will create sustainable working conditions that allow us to remain at this job long-term, like higher pay and better healthcare, and ensure we can always provide our communities with accurate reporting that lives up to the highest standards of journalistic ethics and editorial integrity.

Our Mission Statement:

In an era where print newspapers and local news are declining, we believe Schneps Media plays an increasingly rare and critical role in the New York City and Long Island media landscape. To strengthen the Schneps publications as outlets for ambitious and objective local journalism in the public interest, we’re seeking to create a workplace that adequately supports local journalists reporting on the communities they love. We’re asking for a living wage, stronger healthcare coverage and other benefits, improved standards of editorial integrity, a transparent process for promotions and raises, a commitment to diversity, and a clear and reasonable delegation of work responsibilities that encourages reporters to grow into their roles over time in order to better serve their communities.

We are forming a union with the Independent Association of Publishers’ Employees (IAPE), Local 1096 of the NewsGuild-Communication Workers of America, to stand collectively with our colleagues across the media industry. The NewsGuild represents 27,000 journalists, media workers, and nonprofit workers. It is also an international voice for freedom of the press, free speech, and the freedom and safety of journalists around the world.

We, the undersigned employees, in alphabetical order, ask Schneps leadership to recognize our union voluntarily and respect our protected right to organize without retaliation or interference.
