Unit Council

The unit council ensures that our governance structure is functioning effectively, each role communicating with the others and, in turn, with membership. They are also the first point of contact in interactions with management and with our Local, the Chicago News Guild. Each of the four unit council positions is elected to a two-year term. The current term ends in January 2028.

Bargaining Committee

The bargaining committee conducts research, organizes survey feedback from unit members to identify priorities, and drafts contract proposals. They will meet with university management during bargaining sessions. Meetings of the bargaining committee are led by the bargaining lead, who is responsible for liaising with the unit council and chief shop stewards and orchestrating our unit’s plan at the negotiating table.
