Nokia Bargaining Report #47

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Vice President Lisa Bolton and the bargaining team met with Andy Golby, head of Network Implementation of Americas, today via webex. Andy Golby spoke about the forward view of Network Implementation and the Delivery Model. Fundamentally the forward view, over the next three years, is as technology changes the growth work will be more in 5G small cells. The company believes this work will require a less skilled workforce. In addition, the company is looking for the flexibility to be able to ramp up and/or down quickly and on short notice and to better align the skill set of the Installer with the work being performed.

Vice President Bolton expressed the Union’s desire to partner with the company to continue utilizing the knowledge and experience that the Installers bring and to grow the business. Steve Amato reiterated that the Installers in the field want to continue to provide the customer with the quality service they deserve and are paying for. The Union also spoke to the fact that it is the Installer in the field that has the trust and relationship with the customer. As Nokia ventures into new markets these are the skill sets that will be critical.

We do not have any bargaining meetings scheduled as the Union is still waiting for data that is critical for putting together a comprehensive proposal that addresses cost saving and flexibility. As we have said before this is critical for a successful agreement that address the needs of the Company and protects our Installers and retirees. The bargaining team will continue to meet independent of the company to continue working on proposals.

Please continue to mobilize. It is extremely important that the CEO of Nokia, Nokia’s Bargaining Chair, Nokia’s Customers and your Legislators need to know that eliminating good Union jobs and putting retiree’s benefits at risk is BAD BUSINESS.
