Local 9412 Committee Recruiting

Hello, fellow CWA Local 9412 siblings!  I am reaching out to all of our members regarding staffing our local committees we are required to have per the CWA constitution.  We are looking for volunteers to staff our committees listed below from the ranks of our membership.  The only requirements are to be an active or retired member in good standing, which all of you should be if you are receiving this message.  Below you will find a list of the committees & a description of what each committee does & entails.  A local officer is to be assigned to oversee each committee & a chairperson will be appointed to lead the committee from the list of volunteers, holding meetings as necessary pursuant to the purpose of the committee. The chairperson is to run the meetings by parliamentary rule, or Roberts Rules, taking detailed notes, or minutes, of the meeting or appointing a committee member to do so. These committees will report back to the officer over the committee & correspond with them regularly to feed findings & information upward to the officers & executive board so decisions can be made what to do with this information when necessary, and then direction & resources will be fed back to the committees to foster a two way dialogue throughout the structure & enable our local to operate more efficiently & comprehensively address a wide variety of issues.

The purpose of this effort is to ensure we are compliant with the CWA constitution, and by virtue of involvement of members in these committees, stimulate member involvement, solidarity & a sense of ownership within the local, as our union is a bottom-up organization & needs your involvement to function as such.  Please feel free to volunteer for any committee that you have a passion for, that resonates with you or sounds interesting to you.  The main thing is we want reliable people that want to be involved & are willing to make the effort to make our union stronger & our community & world a better place.  You can volunteer for multiple committees if you’d like.  Most committees will be comprised of between 3-10 members depending on the nature of the committee, and will meet at different intervals for the same reasons.  Due to the head count of each committee, applicants may not be selected on the first go around but will be placed on a waiting list pending future openings.  Furthermore, some committees’ applicants may be selected based upon regional jurisdiction for coverage reasons.  We will reach out to all volunteers with relevant information & potentially interview you to have conversations about the committees in the near future.  From the list of volunteers, per the UOPM (Union Operating Procedures Manual), members of all committees will be appointed by a majority vote of the local Executive Board, subject to the right of the Local Membership to overrule such appointments.  Any member of a committee may be removed by majority vote of the Local Executive Board, subject to the right of the Local Membership to overrule the action of the Executive Board.  A committee member may be removed by action of the Local Membership in a membership meeting.  The committees may grow & add people if necessary in the future & will evolve as necessary.  If you have any questions regarding any of this, please feel free to contact me.
