The ITU merged with the Communications Workers of America in 1987, creating the Printing Sector. The Coast Valleys Typographical Union Local #650, also known as CWA Local 14904, then received its Local Charter from CWA on February 1, 1987. The Sector transition occurred at the CWA Convention in 2019.

Today the Local represents fifteen print shops with a total of 44 members statewide. The shops provide everything from a printed letter to clothing and banners not to mention mailing services. Five of our locals have the Allied label with the remaining having the CWA label.

In May 2021, the Local was placed into receivership. Since that time the Trustee has negotiated several lapsed contracts and worked with Headquarters, the Negotiated Pension Plan and many of the shop owners to update records and provide assistance where needed.

The printing industry has changed substantially over the years. The Allied Printing Trades Council puts out a Union Directory of Printers and Mailers each year granting local unions quick access to union printers. With elections coming up next year, our union printers will be extremely busy using their skills for candidates.
