CWA RETIREES MEETING OCTOBER 14, 2019

October 14, 2019

The meeting was called to order by President Bob Huss. He said a prayer and led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance.  He asked everyone to remain standing as he read the names of the deceased: Robert Duvalle (close companion of Shirley Leahy) and a Western Electric installer who was known as “Beetle Bailey”.

Nancy Jinkerson read the minutes of the previous meeting and announced the lunch menu.  With no corrections it was moved, seconded and passed to approve them as read.  Ron Munford gave the financial report.  It was moved, seconded and passed to accept the report.

Earline Jones spoke about the ongoing threats to Social Security and Medicare as well as issues on the state level that impact all of us.  She also talked about health care and about what the Alliance for Retired Americans is doing to combat these threats.  She shared information about open enrollment for Medicare and offered to contact AON about having a representative come to the meeting and talk to the membership. Several people shared their own experiences with their health care and medications.

Bob Huss continued to talk about health care and the various Medicare plans.  He recommended having someone sit with you when you make your phone call regarding health care.  He invited members to share their own experiences with their plan.  He warned people to make sure their doctor is in their plan,  Several members shared their experiences.

Two representatives from United Way spoke and passed out information.Bob reminded everyone to watch Channel 4 if the weather is bad and the meeting is canceled. The monthly birthday cake was won by Ken Cox.Drawings were held and monies were given out as prizes, followed by items for the white elephant. Earline told a joke.  A motion was made, seconded and passed to adjourn.

Accordion music was provided during lunch by Amy Jo Sawyer of Musicians Union Local 2-197.

Bingo was played afterwards.
