CWA Retirees Meeting March 11, 2019

The meeting was called to order by President Bob Huss. Instead of saying a prayer he asked everyone to pray silently and then led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance to our flag.  He asked everyone to remain standing for a moment of silence for the deceased:  Bob Lovatto, Shirley Mae Wilks, John Forsyth and Mary Elizabeth Rhodes.

Secretary Nancy Jinkerson announced the menu for the day and read the minutes of the February meeting.  With no corrections or additions a motion was made, seconded and passed to approve them as read.Ron Munford gave the treasurer's report.  A motion was made, seconded and passed to approve it.

Vice-President Earline Jones spoke about the Social Security Expansion Act which was introduced in the Senate in February. It would force the wealthy to pay Social Security Tax at the same rate as everyone else.  She shared an article she read regarding spousal benefits of a deceased worker's pension.  She recently attended a meeting sponsored by the AFL-CIO where several issues were discussed such as minimum wage, Right to Work and equal pay for women.

Bob Huss expanded on what Earline addressed in her report.  He emphasized the importance of a Union contract.  He cautioned everyone to be careful about taking calls from people implying they are from Medicare.  He talked about health care and the importance of monitoring our prescription costs.

A couple of members spoke about issues surrounding their health care that were a result of incorrect coding or billing errors.  Members are urged to pay close attention to their HRA as well as their medical bills.  Bob Huss recommended that reimbursement be put into a seperate account.

Earline made a motion to have the chapter send Bob Huss to the Missouri Legislative Conference in Jefferson City.

The monthly birthday cake was won by Cindy Sonnenchein.
Drawings were held and monies were given out as prizes.
Bob told a joke.

A motion was made, seconded and passed to adjourn the meeting.

Music was provided during lunch by a group of musicians from Musicians Union Local 2-197.

Bingo was played afterwards.
