CWA/AT&T Midwest Bargaining Report #88-92

March 13th, 2019

Fighting Today…Focused on the Future!

While the committee would like to relay something meaningful in this report, we sadly must share some of the same news we have shared before.  Although informal discussions are occurring, the Company still remains unprepared to respond to the bargaining team with any meaningful dialogue about the last proposals we passed in early February.

Despite their statements in the Company email blast sent to employees, it would seem as if they may not actually be ready to work towards an agreement that:

  • Protects our healthcare
  • Provides real job security
  • Moves CWA members forward economically

You may have read in the Legacy T report that the Company isn’t willing to TA even their own proposals that the Union is agreeable to.  That is also the case here in District 4. You can imagine our frustration when we can’t even get the Company to sign off on things we already agree on. Nonetheless, the bargaining team WILL NOT BACK DOWN

It has been over a year since the members in District 4 commenced bargaining this agreement.  The Company remains united against you in your attempts to get a fair agreement.  We know the road has been long and tiring but now more than ever members must stand united against this Company to get a fair contract.  Like a champion fighter no matter how many knockout blows the company has attempted to throw, the members in District 4 have kept swinging, we can’t stop now.

Fighting Today…Focused on the Future!

Over the last 10 days the Union committee passed proposals on Appendix F, Benefits, Employment Security, Jobs, and had discussions about the remaining open aspects of the agreement.

The discussions we had with the company over the past number of days focused on the important issues we all care about. Health care, jobs, continued employment and our overall work life. We made many passionate arguments about why we hold the positions we do. It is what CWA members care about. It’s about doing the right thing.

We also heard the positions of the company and what they care about. We have fundamental differences that we have to work through. Although this presents an immense challenge, we hope the conversations that have occurred lead the company to a change in their position. We will consider their thoughts as well as we look for a path to an agreement over the coming days.

We intend to review the company’s position as it relates to our proposals; as we allow time for them to review our proposals. We will be working internally as a committee to prepare for a return to the table once our review is complete and the company has had adequate time to review our new proposals.

We will do whatever it takes to make progress towards a fair agreement.

Thank you for your continued support of this bargaining team.

Fighting Today…Focused on the Future!

The Union, once again REJECTED the Company’s “revised final offer”. The CWA District 4 Midwest Bargaining Committee met yesterday with AT&T in formal session to exchange proposals on some of the remaining open items.

The Union Committee passed proposals on Article 16 (Benefits), Appendix A19 (Employment Security Commitment), Appendix A20 (Extended Employment Opportunity Period) and a new Memorandum of Agreement on Employment and Strong Communities.

The Committee continues to work on the remaining issues and plan on passing additional proposals this week.

We will do whatever it takes to make progress towards a fair agreement.

Thank you for your continued support of this bargaining team.

Fighting Today…Focused on the Future!

The CWA District 4 Midwest Bargaining Committee met this week numerous times to assess how we can get AT&T to reach an agreement that provides a fair contract for all of us.

The discussions with the Company thus far have centered on benefits, work and other items that affect compensation and working conditions.

After meeting with the Company yesterday, we plan to continue to formulate additional proposals on benefits and other remaining open issues.

We will do whatever it takes to make progress towards a fair agreement.

Thank you for your continued actions in support of this bargaining team.

Fighting Today…Focused on the Future!

After many months of little progress in moving towards an acceptable agreement, we are returning to the bargaining table in an attempt to restart meaningful negotiations. We are taking this initiative as we hope the company will begin to make movement from their previous positions. We must know that there is a future for this bargaining unit in AT&T’s plans. So far the company has not indicated a willingness to include us. We will continue to push AT&T to commit to servicing the customers of the Midwest region with reliable market leading communications services they have for decades using CWA members covered by the Midwest Agreement.

We need your help!

Currently there is a letter writing mobilization campaign. The action is to write a short letter to your member of congress; ask them to investigate what AT&T has done with their tax break money. Thus far, the only things we have seen from the windfall AT&T received from their permanent tax break are continued job cuts and offshoring. There has also been a historical unwillingness to bargain a contract that includes acceptable job security or access to jobs of the future.

Write the letter…we need your help!.

We will do whatever it takes to make progress towards a fair agreement.

Thank you for your continued actions in support of this bargaining team.
