Know Your RIGHT to
When management wants to meet with you and you think disciplinary action may be taken, you have the right to ask for union representation. Management has been getting around this request by saying no one is available, which is untrue. The truth is the company cannot continue with a meeting when union representation is requested. A representative of the Union is available.
If the company doesn’t know who to call, you can call the union hall at 615 837-3336 and request representation. There is a union rep available and the company is aware of this. Don't let the company talk you out of your bargained for right to representation by saying things like " you don't need a rep, you can trust me", or "I don't know how to get you a rep, that will just delay the meeting."
It is in your best interest to have a representative there with you. If you are not sure about the nature of the meeting, ask if disciplinary action is going to be taken. If the answer is yes, or maybe, ask for union representation. Don’t go into meeting that potentially can harm your employment without union representation.
If you are called into a security meeting, be sure and ask for union representation. DO NOT TALK TO SECURITY WITHOUT A UNION REP!!!!!!
